Homework Club

In today's hectic world, quality family time is a valued commodity
that is in short supply. A growing concern is occurring nationwide
over the amount of time children are spending on homework. It has been
proven that the most effective learning takes place in the classroom,
however, homework is essential in enforcing what is being taught.
|
 |
|
The growing opinion is that homework is growing nationwide because
class time and class days are decreasing in most states. At Tower Academy,
our students have a longer academic school day and attend school about
a month longer in academic days than our public school counterparts.
|
At Tower Academy our emphasis is on learning in the classroom while
homework is used as a tool to reinforce that learned material. We do this
by providing ample time for students to complete work in the classroom
and after school. However, homework is still a necessary tool and still
is an important part of our program. In addition, studies show that parent
involvement at school and with homework has a direct positive effect on
student development and academic success. The completion and turning in
of homework on time also promotes student responsibility while building
self-esteem.
To meet the growing concerns over homework, Tower Academy has created
the "Tower Academy Homework Club". The goal of the program is
simple. Tower Academy provides its students with a structured homework
period daily to complete most if not all homework assignments. A comprehensive
homework program provides students with an environment conducive to learning
while lessening the need for individualized tutoring. The program also
reduces stress levels at home where working parents can focus on specific
student needs and not general assigned homework. The program is directed
and supervised by regular teachers with assistance from our elementary
aides.
